Kayla and Jess’ Baxter State Park wedding is one for the books! When this happy couple contacted me about their winter wedding I was so excited! Not only did they get married in one of the prettiest places in Maine but they set their wedding date for a winter date! In order to capture the true beauty of Baxter State Park, they decided to plan an outdoor ceremony. Freezing temperatures and potential snowfall did not scare me at all. We hoped all day for snow and were lucky enough to get a flurry at the end of the night. This was the first time I have shot an outdoor winter wedding ceremony and I can say I will happily do it again!
The love of the outdoors was evident for this adventurous couple. Winter has always been Jess’ favorite season and she passed this love onto Kayla. Winter activities have always been part of their love story. Whether that be downhill skiing and or snowmobiling, this couple truly embraces winter. Consequently having a winter wedding came with some challenges. One huge challenge was the unpredictable Maine weather. Their Baxter State Park wedding day was truly a perfect winter day except for one thing – the single digit temperature! This did not stop Jess and Kayla from their outdoor ceremony. The New England Outdoor Center was nothing short of amazing! This wedding venue was perfect place for this laid back and fun couple to celebrate their commitment and love to each other.
Kayla and Jess’ love story began in a pre-pharmacy school. It was Kayla’s lucky day when she sat next to Jess and her sister in anatomy and physiology class. During this course the two got to know each other. It wasn’t until they were both in organic chemistry that their friendship truly started to develop. The friendship later blossomed into a relationship when they both enter pharmacy school. After the many hours of studying and competing for the best grades, their relationship developed into a forever kind of love. During one of their many adventures together Kayla planned for something very special. On a February weekend trip to Vermont, on a snowy mountain side, Kayla proposed to Jess doing one of their favorite things, downhill skiing!
Their snowy mountain winter wedding in Baxter State Park truly was a reflection of Kayla and Jess. The whole day they were laid back, excited, emotional, and nothing but fun! They shared heartfelt vows they wrote themselves, had many laughs, and shed a few tears throughout their ceremony. They included the perfect winter details into their wedding in very subtle ways. I maybe bias but their wedding footwear was spot on! Including their bean boots into their day was the perfect Maine winter detail.
Kayla was so sweet when she saw Jess walking towards her! The love these two women have for each other is so incredibly strong and raw.
This group of women can make ANYONE laugh. For real! I can totally see why they are all friends! This couple knows how to have a party! Their reception in the New England Outdoor Center was nothing but fun! There were so many candid moments captured and the true happiness and affection that they have for each other was clear all night! Kayla and Jess have two adorable dogs. Unfortunately, they couldn’t attend the wedding but Kayla and Jess did include them into the wedding details!
When they told me their entire bridal party would be wearing bean boots, I sort of freaked out with excitement! Then they encouraged me to wear my bean boots as well!
