Laura and Ian’s Vermont Wedding story starts roughly 10 years ago. Laura and Ian’s love story started when a Michigan teenage girl and a Vermont teenage boy both planned on attending Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Before classes started they decided to join in their college’s pre-college orientation camping trip in Killarney Provincial Park in Canada. Over the course of the 3 week camping trip, Laura and Ian met, bonded over their love of hiking and the outdoors, and their relationship was official shortly after classes started at Kalamazoo. Fast forward 10 years, Laura and Ian, planned the most gorgeous and authentic Vermont wedding in the Green Mountains. Overlooking farm land and the mountains, these two shared their personal vows and committed their lives to each other.
The first time I spoke to Laura, we talked for over an hour! About life, how beautiful Vermont is, and of course our love of dogs. (Cannot wait for future dog dates when Laura and Ian get a pup!) It truly was like I had made a new friend instantly. The attention to detail that Laura has is incredible. As an artist and photographer, Laura put in the extra effort to make everything look flawless.
In many different aspects of their wedding Laura and Ian included family heirlooms. Laura’s engagement ring belonged to Ian’s great grandmother and their wedding bands were passed down from Ian’s parents. The uniqueness that these family heirlooms added to their wedding made their Vermont wedding even more gorgeous and sentimental.
Even after 10 years of dating, these two had so many nerves on their wedding day. They were both so incredibly excited for their first look! Not only was it so sweet but relaxed both of them before the timeline of the day took off. During their first look, we took the time for them to have some alone time and to capture them in the gorgeousness that is Vermont and the property around the 1824 House Inn.
As a midwest girl, Laura loved that the 1824 House Inn was surrounded by farm fields. We took full advantage of the very tall corn, which really didn’t look that tall at first glance! I love the look this included and that it also gave Laura a little piece of home.
What an incredible bridal party Laura and Ian had for their Vermont wedding. Each one of them was helpful, fun, and totally cheering on these two love birds.
This Vermont wedding venue was amazing. The 1824 House Inn has so much character and a rustic barn, which was perfect for the reception.
This sign was designed and painted by Laura. She also designed their invitation suite. Holy! she is such an incredible artist!
Ian is a brewer so it was an obvious choice for them to share a glass of their favorite beer during their ceremony. The hops made a great addition to their decorations and looked amazing on their arbor.
As soon as they got by the last row of seats at their ceremony, these two literally ran up this path! Seriously, how sweet can these two be!?
Laura inherited some of her artist ability… the shawl Laura is wearing below was made by her mother. Not only was it absolutely gorgeous but it also had over 1,000 small crystal beads throughout it.
Oh Vermont. You stole my heart at this wedding! Seriously, the weather may have tried to scare us but Laura and Ian had the most gorgeous day ever. Also Vermont greenery is also unlike any other, just look at it!!
Laura and Ian wanted their wedding to reflect their love of the outdoors. To accomplish the natural woodsy feel their wedding had, their details centered around this theme and required some outside help from their families. Both of their parents were so incredibly helpful during the planning part of their wedding. All of their centerpieces and serving platters were tree pieces, that were harvested on Laura’s parents’ land in Michigan. Her dad sanded and finished each and everyone of them by hand. Ian’s family provided their favorite homemade pies, pumpkin and apple, and also baked hundreds of homemade cookies for guests to enjoy throughout the evening.
Before the dancing part of their reception officially started, they were serenaded by Ian’s cousins and Uncle to a Jason Mraz song… with small changes in the lyrics, the song included their names and love story.
Laura and Ian, thank you. You two are incredible and I cannot wait to see the journey you two will take as husband and wife.
