Bridget and Gary’s Northern Maine wedding was one that I was so excited for! Bridget and Gary, where to even start!? Well let’s just say they are essentially a match made in heaven. I have known Bridget since I was in elementary school when I became best friends with her younger sister, Lorraine. I always thought Bridget was super cool and admired her artist talent (she is an amazing painter). Fast forward many years, I started to photograph Bridget’s growing family when her and Gary welcomed their sweet and handsome little boy, Knox. When both Lorraine and Bridget got engaged, it was such a pleasure to have them both ask me to photograph their Maine weddings. It was truly amazing to photograph the same family twice and only 7 days apart! I happily call this wedding, the Hughes Wedding Part II.
Bridget and Gary planned a fun, laid back, heartfelt, and gorgeous Maine wedding. They incorporated classy details and combined their details with rustic elements. Between the potato barrels, sequins, florals, and having their ceremony and reception at a barn, it was pretty much a photographer’s dream to photograph. The addition of the Northern Maine elements, like the potato barrels and fresh local flowers made their Maine wedding just so Maine – which was important since most of their guests were traveling from other countries to attend their wedding.
Bridget and Gary decided on a first look. Before Bridget even walked out of the door to meet Gary, she was already emotional. It was amazing to see them have a few minutes alone and to exchange gifts.
Bridget and Gary met at Freddy P’s, a bar that used to be open in Northern Maine. Bridget was bar tending one night and Gary was with his friends having a good time in the bar. Despite Gary’s interesting pick up line to Bridget, they hit it off and the rest is history. As Lorraine, the matron of honor said in her toast, he soon made it to Easter Dinner, which was a big deal, and was welcomed into the Hughes Family. It was a no brainer for us to cross the street after their first look and capture them with all of their friends in front of the very special bar.
Bridget and Gary scheduled their Maine wedding day to not be rushed, leaving plenty of buffer time between “events”. This left us with so much time to spend on their portraits before the ceremony! We stopped along the Aroostook River and took full of advantage of its beauty. During my high school days, I used to take my camera down to this exact spot to practice my photography. It was a perfect place to take Bridget and Gary for their portraits! As Bridget said during our time together, “This spot screams Northern Maine”.
Escaping down to this gem of a shoreline, along the river, was the perfect backdrop for their Maine wedding portraits.
The second I saw the image (below) while picking my favorites to share for theis sneak peek, this one was number one of the list. Anyone that knows Bridget and Gary knows this photo is totally them. They are both so happy and charismatic! These two are seriously the perfect match.
Who doesn’t love a party bus?! This bus was so cool!
We missed sunset by just a few minutes, thankfully the sky was still gorgeous and the stormy clouds of a storm moving into the area provided up with a very dramatic sky. Seriously, Northern Maine has been way too kind to me the past couple weeks. The sunsets have been out of this world! Bridget and Gary trusted me completely and we went for it. Sometimes all you need is just a couple minutes to get a stunning photo!
Congratulations Bridget and Gary! I am so incredibly happy for both of you! I cannot wait to see where the journey of marriage takes you!
