I knew from the beginning Jamie was going to be a very special bride. She is the best friend of a good friend of mine and from every interaction about her Portland wedding, Jamie was so incredibly sweet. You may remember seeing the sneak peek of their Portland wedding this past fall. Until the day of the wedding Jamie and I only knew each other through a computer screen but it felt like we had known each other way better than when I met her in person, finally, in her hotel room in Portland while she was getting her hair and makeup done. Jamie and Austin were gifted a gorgeous fall day to have their wedding in downtown Portland. Jamie has huge ties to Portland harbor and the ferries that make multiple runs a day to islands off the coast of Maine. It seemed like everything aligned for the ferries to end up in a few of our shots and it made it even more special.
As Jamie got ready in her hotel room with her maid of honor and family she was nothing but over taken by happiness on multiple occasions. Jamie shed so many happy tears! Jamie had many different items that held special importance to her, like a small bible and a handkerchief. The small elements that went into Jamie and Austin’s Portland wedding made their wedding so unique and special. One element I really loved was they didn’t have just one cake, they had multiple! They had family and friends bake their favorite family recipe. There was everything from chocolate to lemon.
Jamie and Austin decided to incorporate a first look into their wedding day. I love first looks. It was so amazing to see the raw emotion they both had when they finally saw each other. With Jamie being an emotional person it was the perfect solution to get some of the tears out of the way. Even though there were more tears at the ceremony, I think it was so helpful for them to both get rid of their nerves and share a special moment together. After their first look we took advantage of the time and got all of their family formals done and were able to get some shots of just them in front of the Portland Harbor. The ceremony and reception was held at Ri Ra’s, right next to the ferries – so perfect for Jamie!! While we were shooting the family formals, they got a great little surprise, their guests arriving on boat from the island that Jamie has spent a lot of her time. Jamie and Austin shared their wedding vows to each other in front of the fire place in Ri Ra’s overlooking the Portland Harbor. Jamie and Austin planned their wedding day perfectly. After the ceremony we got to shoot their photos together during sunset. The sky was gorgeous and of course the lights of Portland definitely made for a pretty background.
Jamie and Austin had an incredible wedding day. Their closest family and friends celebrated, laughed, and cried with them. You could tell that every guest at the wedding held a special place in both of their hearts. It was so special to be part of such an amazing couple’s day.
Austin’s wedding band was made from the same gold as Jamie’s grandfather’s wedding band… she had both of their initials and wedding dates engraved into them.
Seriously! Isn’t she the cutest and happiest bride EVER?!
We had a few visitors while we were doing Jamie’s bridal shots. These guys were just walking down the street and next thing you know they were giving Jamie marriage advice and wanted a photo taken with her!
Austin’s face says it all here!
